Magazine Ad Rant No. 1
Okay, so this isn’t really a new ad, but I noticed something very strange about it last night. The photo is for an advertisement for Maybelline’s Dream Nude Airfoam Foundation, so basically the consistency is something not unlike a skin-colored cloud. Here’s the thing that blowed my mind: if you look at the model’s hand, you can tell that the hand with the dollop of makeup is facing down. Unless she has the power to see through her hand, I can’t imagine what it is she could be so fixated on, seeing as the foundation is on the palm of her hand, away from her face. I know the foundation has a foam texture (as opposed to liquid) and is perhaps less prone to dripping, etc. but still, why is the model holding the product in a way that would make it more likely to just fall off her hand? And why this particular photo? The model, Emily, is clearly gorgeous, and I’m sure there were other photos that would have been just as lovely and practical. I would love to see a photo taken after this shot where the foundation had just dripped off her hand or something…
